Boardless, and not bored.
Have you ever been stuck?
I was and didn’t even know it.
Stuck doesn’t have to mean unhappy or trapped.
It can mean many things and they’re not all bad.
It’s not a reflection of the people and events around you. You can be happy, in the best circumstances, and stagnation can set in.
Most of us never even realize we’re stuck until something changes everything. Sometimes it can be the reality check we need.
For the record, I hate change even though I can appear to embrace it.
I was first appointed to a Scottish based board back in 2007. An honour and a big nod to how much I had grown to love all things relating to Scotland. It was a huge eye opener on volunteering and putting on events. Who knew the trend would continue for eighteen years?
Being on Scottish boards, creating and putting on events, became my volunteer thing.
The Haggis Hunt at the BC Highland Games / Setting the World Record for the Longest Recitation of Robbie Burns Poetry and Song /Burns Suppers / Tartan Days (there were many of these)
I was even the President of Vancouver oldest society, the St. Andrew’s and Caledonian Society. We won’t even mention being an elected politician on the Vancouver Park Board.
Then, in 2025, it came time to step away. To become unstuck.
To be clear, I’ve stepped away from board appointments and putting on events, but never from my love of Scotland.
I’ve got a book to write, some walking to do… and maybe along the way, I will take a few pictures.
Who knows what the future will look like. Life is a crazy journey.
I love not being stuck.
Boardless, but never bored.
