This is what it felt like for so many.

When Vancouver News1130 went off the air at 10:45am on July 7, 2026, it was like losing a friend.

Social connections can be the key to a good life. Sometimes those connections can be the people you listen to on the radio. John Ackerman’s book reviews, Terry Schintz’s breaking news and jokes about getting up early in the morning, Raynaldo Suarez’s soothing tones, and even the joy of hearing Jim Bennie back on the air.

I could go on and on about the little moments that made everyone at News1130 part of the family.

They were with us during the good and the tough times.

Always there, whether you needed help navigating a Vancouver traffic mess, or at 3:30am when you needed a friendly voice to sooth you back to sleep.

Many of my older clients are massively missing the relationships they had with the people on the radio. Sure, it may sound a little strange and totally one sided, but it was real. These people cared about you and wanted to give you information you may need.

I feel their pain.

A trusted voice can calm the mind and sooth the brain.

What some of us would give to hear their precious voices once again.

This wasn’t AI or people talking to sell you something. These were friendly souls that were welcome into our homes, our cars and our hearts.

I hope they all know how much they are missed and the positive difference they made to so many.
